Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique: ART is a skilled soft tissue technique that combines massage and movement to treat problems with muscles, fascia, ligaments, tendons, and nerves. ART has been successful in treating tendonitis syndromes like tennis elbow or rotator cuff strains, as well as low back pain, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis, and knee problems to name a few.

This technique was developed and patented by Dr. Leahy, DC, CCSP who recognized the microscopic and macroscopic properties of muscles and how those properties responded to injury. Dr. Leahy developed ART to combine certain types of pressing, manipulating, and stripping to release adhesions and improve soft tissue function. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness, and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.
